This Developing Intercultural Communication Skills course at York Associates is for teachers, trainers and other educational professionals who want to better understand the challenges of intercultural communication for themselves, and how to teach intercultural communication more effectively to their learners.

- An interactive communicative approach is used throughout which lets participants experience the activities and methodologies that they can use in their own teaching contexts.
- Key theories and practical ideas are discussed and explored thoroughly with hands-on input sessions, with participants playing an active role in all sessions to maximise their learning.
- Input sessions involve brainstorming, case study analysis, problem-solving, and role-play tasks, both in pair- and group-work scenarios.
- Participants are asked to reflect on the tasks carried out in each session, with discussion drawing on their own pedagogical knowledge and experience in diverse teaching contexts.
- Participants are also introduced to key websites and other resources to support the further development of their teaching skills and personal professional development.
- Language skills are also developed with feedback given where appropriate.

At the end of the course, you will:- have gained a better understanding of different approaches to intercultural communication skills training
- be more familiar with a range of different intercultural competence models, theories and approaches
- be more aware of the role which attitude and perception have on intercultural communication
- have increased your knowledge of which interpersonal skills underpin successful communication across cultures e.g. building rapport, influencing, managing conflict, etc.
- have improved your ability to assess the effectiveness of intercultural training activities
- have new ideas on how to design intercultural training courses to develop intercultural communication skills
