This Counselling Studies qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and /or severe psychological distress. The course at Cambridge Regional College involves experiential elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities.
Features
It is important that you build up a portfolio of work including ongoing assignments, self-reviews / learning reviews, tutor observed counselling practice sessions, peer feedback and worksheets.
These are all linked to criteria you need to pass. Your tutor will support you to do that. In addition to this internal assessment, there are externally assessed elements and all must be passed to gain the qualification.

- Understanding difference and diversity issues.
- Using counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice
- Understanding theories of counselling and mental health
- Using feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies

General requirements
- You must have undertaken counselling skills training of at least 75 Guided Learning Hours that includes face to face skills practice sessions, e.g. Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (CPCAB) or equivalent units/qualifications. Places are offered through an interview process.
- As part of this course, you are required to undertake at least 10 hours of personal therapy. This will be at your own expense.
