About

As part of this Counselling Studies qualification at Cambridge Regional College you can volunteer to work for an agency in a non-counselling capacity. Working on an agency-based project is also an effective way of securing a work placement for further counselling experience.

Overview

This Counselling Studies qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and /or severe psychological distress. The course at Cambridge Regional College involves experiential elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities.

Features

It is important that you build up a portfolio of work including ongoing assignments, self-reviews / learning reviews, tutor observed counselling practice sessions, peer feedback and worksheets.

These are all linked to criteria you need to pass. Your tutor will support you to do that. In addition to this internal assessment, there are externally assessed elements and all must be passed to gain the qualification.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of:
  • Preparing to work within an ethical framework and its purpose and relevance to counselling practice.
  • Understanding difference and diversity issues.
  • Using counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice
  • Understanding theories of counselling and mental health
  • Using feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies
