According to Shakespeare, ‘All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players’. Indeed, four centuries after his death, Shakespeare’s works continue to captivate and entertain audiences of all ages across the world.

In this An Introduction to Shakespeare course at Warwickshire College there will also be a focus placed on how his plays were written, adding mystery to the authenticity of his work.
At the end of the course you have the choice of writing a short essay (of no more than 1000 words) analysing an extract from a play of your choice which is meant to inspire new perspectives on Shakespeare, or write a creative response where you turn a play into a new type of text.
Programme Structure
What you will learn:
- You will study a selection of sonnets, as well as look at extracts from a selection of comedies and tragedies so you can cover as many different plays as possible.
- In doing so, you will also study the comedic and tragic genres, and appreciate the dramatic methods and staging decisions often seen during a performance of a Shakespeare play.
