Overview
Features
The seminars in this An Introduction to English and American Literature course at Warwickshire College are interested in answering the central questions to literary study: ‘Why is literature powerful?’ and ‘Why is this text relevant to us?’
You will appreciate the methods that writers use to create meaning and the staging decisions often seen during drama performances; you will also discuss the power of language through vocabulary selection and techniques.
Programme Structure
What you will learn:
- Some of the writers that feature in this course include Shakespeare, Seamus Heaney, Philip Larkin, Margaret Atwood, Chinua Achebe, Wilfred Owen, Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen but there will be time to discuss many more.
- At the end of the course you will write a reflective commentary (of no more than 1000 words) focusing on one or two of the texts studied during the course, answering questions surrounding the power of the text and its relevance to you and a broader society.
