Overview
These Lino Printing for the Beginner workshops at Robert Gordon University are designed for beginners who want to explore lino printing; a relief printmaking technique in which a design is carved into a linoleum block and ink is rolled onto the raised surface to produce one or more prints.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, you’ll have produced a series of unique, hand-carved lino blocks and original prints on paper (A4–A3), reflecting your personal creative style and growing confidence in lino printing. You’ll also have the option to create a second small series of prints or develop a set of multi-coloured works using the reduction technique.
Programme Structure
What you will learn:
- You’ll be guided through each stage of the process and introduced to the essential tools and materials used in this expressive medium.
- Throughout the workshops, you’ll learn to use carving tools safely and effectively while developing core cutting and mark-making techniques.
- You’ll explore your ideas through sketching and discover how to transfer your designs onto lino before carving your final compositions.
