Overview
Drawing upon psychological approaches that are informing executive coaching practice, students will explore coaching's role in enabling change, growth and development with clients.
It also provides students with the opportunity to practice their coaching skills and be coached upon issues that are pertinent to them.
This course has been endorsed by the Board of Executive and Professional Education, University of Cambridge.
Aims of the course:
- To explore the role of psychological and emotional dimensions within the coaching process.
- To provide students with an introduction to core coaching methodologies.
- To describe inter-personal skills that enable effective coaching to take place.
- To introduce different psychological approaches that are informing coaching.
- To enable students to practice coaching.
- To clarify the coach's responsibilities with clients
This online course format includes an introductory orientation week to meet your fellow students and prepare yourself for five weeks of tutor-led independent study and discussion. You will be able to study 'anytime, anywhere' and contribute to ongoing lively discussion and debate with your fellow students and your tutor, each week. Active participation is expected and encouraged. In the final week you will receive personal feedback from your tutor, and a Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who contribute constructively to weekly discussions and exercises/assignments for the duration of the course.
Accreditation
Our Institute of Continuing Education offers short non-credit courses, residential and summer schools, and part-time, award-bearing programmes ranging from Undergraduate Certificates through to Master of Studies degrees. These are open to individuals living outside the UK, and the Institute describes what you need to consider before applying.

Funding
Bursary awards
We are offering a limited number of bursaries to eligible students who wish to study selected courses with the Institute. The bursaries will continue to be available while funds remain.
Student loans
Part-time students can currently apply for a Tuition Fee Loan of up to £6,750 to cover the cost of University fees. This loan replaces the Grants scheme previously in place. Maintenance grants will only be available to full-time students.
Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs)
If you are a UK student on a course that could enable you to apply for a student loan as described above and you have a disability, mental health condition or a specific learning difficulty which affects your ability to study, you may be able to apply for an allowance to help you buy or rent equipment to aid you in your studies or to pay for the services of support workers to assist you. Any previous study will not affect your eligibility for DSAs, even if you received financial support. There is no age limit on receiving DSAs.
Other sources of support
Students may also apply to the University's Access to Learning Fund which administers limited funds provided by the government to relieve financial hardship that might impact upon a student's participation in higher education. The fund cannot normally be used to meet the cost of tuition fees but can provide additional financial help to meet other course related costs.
