About

History

Founded in 1964, Macquarie University was a pioneer in many fields, including our open admissions procedures, student choice, semester and grading systems, small group teaching and academic self-appraisal.

Most of these practices are now widespread, but at the time, they were undeniably pioneering.

Education

  • At Macquarie, we give you the freedom to explore your interests across a range of areas, rather than lock you in to a single, narrow field. We do this primarily by offering courses and degrees that are interdisciplinary.
  • If you’re an undergraduate we also give you the option to undertake double degrees in either complementary, or completely different, areas of study.
  • If you’re interested in postgraduate study you can forge your own path by tailoring coursework and research programs to study subjects both inside and outside your main academic focus area.

Research

  • The world is a big place. Its challenges are many and they are often complex. But for every challenge there is a solution, growing in somebody’s mind.
  • Macquarie University was founded with a distinct purpose: to bring pioneering minds together and free them from traditional boundaries. To invite perspectives that had previously gone unheard. And together, boldly imagine new ways of thinking.
  • With an enviable reputation for research excellence and a driving desire to produce solutions with real-world impact, our discoveries are paving the way to a brighter future.

Career

  • Some still see university and the eventual job you get as two separate entities. We don’t. At Macquarie we work with both Australian and international students to ensure your studies lead you to a satisfying and prosperous career, one that allows you to dream big and make a difference in this world.
  • Our Career Accelerator initiative is a powerful three-stage process that ensures potential employees will like what they see and get you started on the path to a satisfying career sooner.
