About

History

The University was established in 1892 and originated as a University of Oxford extension college. Today, it is ranked in the top 200 universities worldwide (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016/17 and QS World University Rankings 2018) and holds a world-class reputation for the quality of its teaching, research and links to business.

Student services

The University has a range of academic services to help you excel. From Study Advice and Maths Support to Peer Assisted Learning and Liaison Librarians.

There are a number of services available to all students, to provide help and support with any aspect of academic life. They can be accessed by one-on-one appointments, at regular drop-ins or via email and telephone.

Housing services

We have a range of rooms available for full or part-year bookings.

  • For London Road Campus  - Accommodation at Kendrick Hall 

Library services

The University Library and its staff can support your studies, providing you with access to information - online, multimedia or printed - and the skills to make the most of it.

ICT services

IT provides help and advice with using computer software and hardware.

  • On-line forms provide a quick way to apply for services.
  • Training in the use of common software is available from IT.
  • Open access PC and Unix workstation facilities are available on-campus.
  • The software list is a quick way to locate software on central computing facilities.
  • The University also provides options for storing files.

Medical services

If you are resident in an EEA/non-UK European Economic Area (EEA) member state and are visiting or studying in England you can access free NHS treatment that is medically necessary during your stay by showing a valid EHIC. This allows the UK to recover the cost of your care from your country of residence. 

Student Life

Campus life

  • Whiteknights Campus

Our main campus is set in 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, so you’ll find plenty of places to relax during the day. The site has received seven consecutive Green Flag awards, recognising it as one of Britain’s top green spaces.

  • London Road Campus

The London Road campus has recently undergone a £30 million transformation. This historic site, one of the University’s original campuses, is home to the Institute of Education. It also features the Great Hall, which is used for concerts and graduation ceremonies, and a bar/café that serves hot and cold food.

  • Greenlands Campus

It features a fully equipped fitness centre, business facilities, a conference centre, accommodation and dining room. 

Sports facilities

As a student you will have access to the extensive sports facilities on offer, both indoors and outdoors. On campus you will find courts, pitches and playing fields for a wide range of sports, as well as a fully-equipped sports centre with gym

Student clubs

The Union is home to a wide range of societies and clubs, all of which are run voluntarily by students. There are currently over 150 societies and sports clubs, which all students are welcome to join.
