Created in 1972 in Paris, ESRA Group is the most important private Film school in France. History

Created in 1972, ESRA Group offers programs in Cinema and television, sound and animated movies. 

ESRA Group has campuses in Paris since 1972, in Nice since 1988, in Rennes since 1995 and in Brussels since 2015. Since 2007 an optional 4th year in New York is available for our grad students.

Since 2016 ESRA International offers a one year program, a Bachelor program and summer programs. 

Education

  • ESRA International offers different filmmaking programs in English to foreign students who wish to acquire a solid foundation in filmmaking - from screenwriting, directing, and production, to technical skills in cinematography, sound and editing. 
  • ESRA International Film School in Paris offers english-language filmmaking programs for international students seeking to study abroad : a 1 year and a 3 year filmmaking programs as well as short summer programs in Paris, France.

Research

ESRA has a research lab whose publications focus on directing and screenwriting

We also have a partnership for research with the university of Marne la Vallée (UPEM).

ESRA Nice is member of the UCA, Université Côte d’Azur, and participates in its research activities.

Career

Whatever career a person aims for in film or television : director, scriptwriter, assistant director, director of photography, camera operator, assistant camera, script supervisor, editor, casting director, executive producer, etc - for cinema, documentary or advertising - they must know the technical and creative processes involved in each department working on the making of a film.

Student services

Student offices available every afternoon from 2pm to 5 pm with dedicated staff.

Housing services

The school is located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris at 135, avenue Felix Faure, and includes classrooms, workshop rooms, editing rooms, post-production rooms, sound studios, and a larger shooting studio with lighting and a green screen. There is also a media library, an equipment locker room and a cafeteria.

Library services

The campus includes a 140 square meter media library which is both a work space where students can come to write, read, or look at films on their laptops, and a documentation room / film library where they can borrow books, professional magazines, and DVDs that are useful for their studies. The Media library is located in 139 avenue Felix Faure right next to the school.

ICT services

Computers for internet access are available at the media library and cafeteria through school wifi.

Computers for technical practice are available for the students outside class hours for training or personal projects.

Campus life

Paris Campus is located in the 15th district, 3000m2 of technical rooms, 70 m2 fully equipped shooting studio, recording studios, classrooms, mac labs, animation rooms, editing rooms, finishing rooms and a cafeteria. Most of the school campus is in Lourmel, located at 135 avenue Felix Faure.

A screening theater is located at 37 Quai de Grenelle, also in the 15th district, close to the Eiffel Tower.

Sports facilities

None

We do have a partnership with Forest hills Aquaboulevard located near the school. This allows student to have very cheap memberships there.

Student clubs

There is a Associations Bureau with an employee dedicated to organizing the student life and student associations. There are several associations such as :

-   Cultural association : Theaters and museums

-        Cinefestival association : organizes the 48h de l’ESRA, a 48h film project challenge

-        Sound technics association : learning how to manually repair analog equipment

-        Photography association : Photo competition + Photo lab

Accreditation

ESRA is the largest private cinema school in France, it is accredited to deliver state degrees certified by the French government (BA and BFA Levels) :

Paris campus also offers two national degree granting MFA : the DHEC in Directing and screenwriting and in Production and Distribution
