Research is at the very core of what we do and who we are. At JICAS, you will get a research-led programme of study with opportunities to explore your interests and research agendas on islands across the world, with dissertation options in Channel Islands, Canary Islands, Azores, Caribbean, South Atlantic and Greece!.
Possible topics for the Dissertation include scientific research in any of the subjects being taught on the MSc, that are either on-going or de novo. This can include Island Biodiversity Conservation Projects, Island Biodiversity data collection and analysis, literature reviews, etc.
The aim of the degree is to train global leaders, managers and policy makers in Island Biodiversity and Conservation. Through integral collaboration with key players in the field of biodiversity and conservation, this MSc ensures the training you receive will prepare you for immediate employment both in the UK and abroad. The 17th century farm-house is located in an area of the island well known for its dramatic viewpoints and natural beauty. Les Creux, Corbiere and the bays of St Brelade, Beauport and St Ouen are all located in this area and are some of Jersey’s most memorable sites.
In addition to the suite of services, IT software and vast archive and databases offered through University of Exeter’s on-line library, there are a number of quiet places, including the Learning Resource Centre, Law Library and designated study areas across Le Chapelan. The Jersey Public Library also has a number of quiet spaces and reading rooms.
All student services, including IT support, are offered through our partnership with the University of Exeter.
All student are required to register with the Office of Social Security, which will give them access to health care. Once students are registered with Social Security, they will be entitled to work up to 20 hours per week, tax free up to the first £16,000 (off campus).
Additionally, JICAS offers unlimited counselling services to any student who wishes to engage (on campus)
The Highlands Campus is home to the States of Jersey’s Department of Education, Highlands College, University College Jersey, Institute of Law – Jersey and the Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies.
JICAS is housed in the top floor of the Turner building in Le Chapelan with the Institute of Law – Jersey. The Chapelan Suite is the main seminar room and can sit 100 students comfortably. The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is available to all students across campus, as well as Law Library on Le Chapelan.
