Student services

Student counsellors, student psychologists and trainers talk to and advise students with complex personal problems, coach them and provide short-term counselling, training courses and workshops aimed at enhancing academic skills and personal development.

Housing services

Groningen is a lively student-city with around 50,000 (international) students. It’s no wonder then that the city’s slogan is “Nothing tops Groningen” (in Dutch: “Er gaat niets boven Groningen”). The high student population in Groningen brings the average age of the town down to 36; this makes Groningen the youngest city in the Netherlands. With one in four people being a student, there are a lot of festivals and events in the city such as the ESN introduction week geared towards students and our bars have no official closing times.

Library services

As part of the library facilities, the university offers access to more than 80,000 e-journals, one million ebooks, three million printed books, and 5,000 magazines. The university houses three different libraries, the University Library (UB) in the city centre, the Zernike library, and the central medical library.

ICT services

  • Online workspace
  • Wireless Internet
  • Printing Facilities

Medical services

The Health, Safety & Sustainability (AMD) employs a variety of experts in the fields of work and organization, sick leave, staff welfare, occupational health and hygiene, ergonomics, the environment, occupational safety and radiation safety.

Campus life

In Groningen, you’ll see students everywhere: studying in the pretty Noorderplantsoen park, working various part-time jobs and partying the night away. And, because it’s relatively affordable here, students live across the city, making all of Groningen your campus. Groningen is also a safe and green city to live in, with the quiet countryside only a short bike-ride away.

Sports facilities

The ACLO sports centre is founded in 1945 and is the biggest student sports organization of the Netherlands. Here, 19,000 students from the University of Groningen and the Hanze University Groningen can enjoy sport 15 hours a day, almost every day of the year. The ACLO is a place where you can join a wide variety of sports in a fun setting.

Bachelor Study at RUG

Great university with high quality education. Great student life and nice city however the wheather throughout the year could be better. The education is of high niveau. One thing that is important to know is that finding accomodation can be challengeing as well as part time work for students especially if you do not speak dutch.

Decent University

I do not have a lot to compare to because this is my first time going to uni, but everything seems fair; lecture are well structured, tutorials are nicely organized by higher year students and overall not a bad school.
