AISTS Open Modules

Gain all the benefits of a university course and education on a focused topic and in a condensed time frame. Open modules allow individuals from the working world to join the AISTS MSA (Master in Sport Administration) participants and gain all of the benefits of a university course and education on a focused topic, and in a condensed time frame. AISTS Open Modules integrate theories into practical applications (e.g. case studies, presentations and discussions) enabling a rich exchange of ideas and experiences. The modules are taught in English by academics and professionals from different sport organisations including the IOC, various International Federations and sport agencies. The AISTS Open Modules mainly take place on the EPFL campus.

Open Module 1 - Cross-Cultural Skills

Date: 23 January 2014

The AISTS Cross-Cultural Skills module teaches you about multicultural work environments (perceptions, cultural differences, …). You will learn about cross-cultural communication models and how to better understand and manage cultural differences. Participants are exposed first hand to a rich multi-cultural learning environment involving approximately 20 different cultures

Open Module 2 - Sports Event Management & Organisation Seminar (SEMOS)

Dates:27 - 31 January 2014

The AISTS SEMOS module offers an overview of the key tasks that sports managers need to successfully plan, communicate and operate when organising sport events. The AISTS SEMOS brings together leaders of International Sport Federations and other experts of the AISTS network, including the International Olympic Committee, to create a seminar that is both pertinent and practical, and recognises the increased expectations of spectators, media and sponsors at major events.

Open Module 3 - Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability

Dates: 10 - 12 March 2014

A growing number of sports organisations are working to make sport more sustainable. Conducting sports events responsibly plays a key role in attracting sponsors and insuring the support from host communities. It is also an opportunity to positively influence society and fulfil sport’s leadership role. However, bringing sustainability to the heart of sport events in a cost-effective and credible way is still a major challenge for most organisations. Participants develop the capability to build and implement a robust and successful sustainability initiative for a sports event and gain insight into the latest sustainability management tools.

Open Module 4 - Marketing, Sponsorship & Media Management

Dates: 17 - 21 March 2014

This module examines the concept, practice and environment of sports marketing with a special emphasis on sports sponsorship. It gives participants a thorough understanding of the nature and function of the communication processes inherent to sports marketing and sponsorship. The module adopts a clear international perspective. It is taught via a blend of interactive lectures, case studies, reports, and presentations.

Open Module 5 - Digital Marketing

Dates: 24 - 26 March 2014

This module examines the fundamentals of digital marketing with a focus on internet marketing. It gives participants a thorough understanding of the differences between digital marketing versus traditional marketing, how to identify the best internet solution by understanding the different categories of online users and their behaviour, developing relevant content for the chosen solution and measuring performance. It is taught via a blend of interactive lectures, case studies, reports, and presentations.

Open Module 6 - Sports Entrepreneurship

Dates: 18 - 22 August 2014

This module provides a practical approach to entrepreneurship in sport. Lectures are a blend of experts from the EPFL and UNIL, as well as entrepreneurs from the sports industry sharing their experiences, challenges and lessons learnt. The module provides a practical approach in the form of a workshop where participants are provided with the tools and support to develop entrepreneurial business models.
