KAUST began as a vision, perceived across a great expanse of dry, unremarkable desert sand. Five years – and some key ingredients later it is growing into a global force of academics, and is a proud pillar of light to its native nation. Of those key ingredients, none were more vital than the people who helped KAUST rise from the sands. They added water, and they added stone.

Professional Development and Career Counseling (PDCC) prepares graduate students in developing lifelong career management skills. The office provides direction for future student decision-making as it regards their passions and interests in industry, research, or academia. Students are coached on how to negotiate and successfully promote themselves in the job market.

The office furthermore promotes employment and internship opportunities worldwide, facilitates on-campus networking opportunities with employers, and informs graduate students of the latest employment trends in science and technology.

Student services

The Offices of Development and Support and Graduate Services support graduate student success by managing the delivery of services and resources of several offices. These offices work closely with the Graduate Student Council and collaborate with other KAUST offices and departments to enhance the overall quality of experience for graduate students.

Housing services

The housing at KAUST is designed in modern Arabesque style. The Community offers a variety of housing options to eligible students, faculty and staff. These options include villas, detached houses, townhouses and apartments which are obtainable for nominal rental expense. Housing types vary in size from one to four bedrooms.

ICT services

The technology infrastructure of the school is sophisticated and wireless, incorporating a broad spectrum of equipment. All learning spaces are equipped with 21st century classroom tools such as an interactive whiteboard system and 1:1 computing environment.

Medical services

The University provides medical and dental benefits, retirement and savings plans, paid annual leave and much more for eligible personnel.Prospective members of faculty and staff will receive an employment offer outlining their comprehensive benefits package.

Student Life

Campus life

The Discovery Square area is an important community space connecting the academic campus with the Harbor District commercial center. Discovery Square is active throughout the day and acts as a grand plaza representing a center of activity. Discovery Square and the adjacent Harbor district is home to several commercial enterprises on campus – including mail and courier services, banking, fast food and eateries, cafes, bakery, beauty salon and barber shop, as well as a convenience store.

Sports facilities

KAUST community members enjoy a vast array of sports and fitness activities and facilities. In addition to providing amenities such as two pools, exercise rooms, squash and tennis courts, as well as an outdoor football field and track, the Harbor Sport Center acts as a vibrant community meeting ground offering various social activities and group fitness programming. Popular events include weekly social tennis, trivia quiz nights and summer camp for kids.

Student clubs

Residents of the KAUST community have many opportunities to interact socially through a variety of activities. Calendars of activities targeted to all age groups are regularly available at the Harbor community library, Harbor Sports Center and on outdoor display screens located around the campus. Karaoke bowling nights, group language lessons (such as Arabic, French and Chinese), trivia quiz nights, and after-school programs are popular examples.
