Overview
This Cardiac Care module at Anglia Ruskin University provides the opportunity to explore and develop the knowledge and skills required to meet the diverse acute and chronic needs of cardiac patients, their families or carers.
Features
This module is suitable for nurses working in areas such as coronary care units, cardiac (medical and surgical) wards, investigational units, catheter labs and critical care areas.
However it would also be applicable for practitioners working within A&E, and admission assessment units. In addition, paramedics and (ODPs may also wish to gain insight into the care and management of cardiac patients).
The course will focus on the assessment, monitoring, medical and surgical management of cardiac disorders. It will include the patho-physiology for a range of cardiac diseases, disorders and abnormalities; rationale for signs and symptoms and the various treatment strategies. As well as managing the needs of these patients in the community.
Programme Structure
What you will learn:
- Through this module, you will acquire the knowledge to analyse the most appropriate interventions and treatments for managing your clients needs.
- This will help you to understand the disease processes, symptoms and interventions that a person may require but allow you to understand why “you are doing what you are doing”.
- The module focuses on a holistic approach to cardiac care from community management to acute hospital settings and back to rehabilitation in the community, taking into account end of life options.

- All applicants will have experience of caring for patient living with cardiac conditions and a keen interest to learn more. Basic knowledge and understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology is essential.
- All applicants must also have insight into basic ECG interpretation and rhythm recognition. All applicants must have the ability to study at the academic level they have applied for.
