This Management of the Person with Diabetes course at Anglia Ruskin University will advance your skills in this increasingly important area of practice.

As a practitioner with an interest in the management of adults or children living with diabetes, you’ll benefit from this module either to improve your current practice, or as career development at post graduate level 7.
You’ll deepen your appreciation of inter-professional and partnership working when caring for people with diabetes. You'll also develop skills in all aspects of diabetes management, and be able to identify diabetes competencies applicable to your role.
Programme Structure
Course content:- carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism, and the roles of insulin and glucagon
- diabetes mellitus: aetiology, epidemiology, classification, clinical presentation and diagnosis criteria
- the two main types of diabetes: Type 1 & Type 2
- the impact of diabetes: children, young people and adults (including the elderly)
- non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions: lifestyles, oral hypoglycaemic agents and insulin
- the management of acute and long-term diabetic complications

General requirements
Level 6:
- be a registered nurse, health visitor, midwife or other healthcare professional
- be employed in a hospital or community setting
- be responsible for caring for a significant number of people with diabetes mellitus.
- an honours degree with a minimum classification of 2:2, or equivalent. If you have a third-class honours or ordinary (pass) degree, plus a minimum of one year of relevant postgraduate work experience. You'll be considered on an individual basis and will be required to demonstrate a strong interest in diabetes care and quality improvement
- at least one year of relevant postgraduate experience and will currently work in any diabetes care environment, or have a desire to do so in the near future.
