In the intense decade before the spectacular and awful civil wars of the 40s BC, Rome saw a cultural efflorescence in the poetry of Catullus and Lucretius. This Love and war - readings from Rome in the 50s BC course offered by University of Cambridge seeks to look closely at passages from these hugely influential poets and their context.
The course will allow you to:
- engage directly with Latin texts (and their antecedents)
- learn more about Latin meter and rhetoric
- learn more about the 50s BC
