What you will study
In today’s world, you will require strong leadership and good soft skills. If you work in an Embassy or in a consulate service located in Canada, you require a solid understanding of Canadian institutions and the Canadian political system. This program helps participants understand Canadian foreign policies, and national and international security issues, along with the general principles of Canadian diplomacy.
This Canadian and International Affairs Program program offered by University of Ottawa instills a new approach to the management of foreign services in a host country. The courses are given by professors from the University of Ottawa and by senior instructors from the Professional Development Institute. In addition, former or current Canadian civil servants and diplomats contribute with their insights in some courses. The program also includes a series of successful practical exercises and training simulations.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Understand Canadian institutions and political traditions in the Canadian society.
- Understand the principles of diplomacy in the Canadian and international contexts (networks, protocol, and etiquette).
- Identify diplomatic policy issues in Canada.
- Leverage management, leadership, and interpersonal skills in their various foreign affairs activities.
- Increase their ability to take part in international negotiations.
