Overview

This Transport Policy and Finance module at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) is designed to develop your understanding of transport policy-making, considered in the context of social, environmental and technological change. You will examine the nature of transport policies at different levels of governance and the role of stakeholder engagement in developing transport policies.

You will evaluate how transport issues cut across all aspects of social policy, considering the needs of different sectors, different transport modes, and different population groups. The module also examines options for funding and financing investment in the transport sector.

On completion of this module, students are able to:
  • Enter into a sophisticated debate about the key challenges presented by increasingly mobile societies and economies worldwide and the appropriate responses for transport planning and finance       
  • Critically comment on the role of transport and how it interacts with other policy sectors
  • Explain the objectives, contexts, institutions and practices of transport policy and finance and identify contrasts between international examples  
  • Explain how policy, finance and regulation operate in respect of a range of modes of transport
