University of California Irvine (UCI)

Irvine, California, United States
We believe that true progress is made when different perspectives come together to advance our understanding of the world around us. And we enlighten our communities and point the way to a better future. At UCI, we shine brighter.

On a brilliant day in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson stepped from a helicopter into an undeveloped Irvine Ranch meadow and dedicated the land that would become UCI. The founding administration and faculty established traditions of rigorous academics, progressive research, interdisciplinary teaching and independent thinking.

Through our fully accredited English Language programs, students can drastically improve their English skills, focus on learning to apply effective communication techniques in business situations, or advance their English conversation skills and knowledge of American culture. In our Accelerated Certificate Programs, post-graduate professionals can broaden their knowledge and expertise in their field by taking these 3-month courses taught by instructors who are practicing professionals in their industry. Our International Undergraduate Preparation Program (IUPP) and International Graduate Studies Preparation Program (IGSPP) equip students with the skills to be admitted to and succeed in their degree programs.

The University of California, Irvine has become a world-renowned research institution, attracting faculty from the top of their fields, including three Nobel Prize winners. Increasingly a first-choice campus for many students, UC Irvine prides itself as a center for quality education that fosters students’ passion and enthusiasm for knowledge.

UCI also takes pride in its award-winning “green” energy management program, which has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the state of California. It serves as a model for other organizations worldwide, many of which have sought out UCI’s counsel while revisiting their own institution’s approach to energy management.

UCI offers the chance for professional and career development. Our Accelerated Certificate Programs include career development. Internships are supervised professional positions which give you the opportunity to work in a real-world setting, take on workplace projects, earn academic credits, learn new skills and concepts, and make professional contacts. They are unpaid and mostly in mid-sized firms in the high-tech environment of Orange County, as well as the greater Los Angeles area.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is an opportunity for F-1 student visa holders to gain up to 12 months of paid practical work experience off campus, while expanding and enhancing their business experience anywhere in the U.S.
