History
In 1966, in a small wooden building situated among a grove of eucalyptus trees, UC San Diego Extension first opened its doors. Under the guidance of Dr. Martin Chamberlain, a former Peace Corps director in Africa, Extension quickly established a reputation for being a reliable source of knowledge taught by national experts.

The mission of UC San Diego Extension is to serve the critical lifelong learning and skill development needs of individuals, organizations and the community.
Research
The Center for Research on the Regional Economy (CRRE) researchers have expertise in regional workforce trends, the impact of universities, research institutions and continuing education on regional economic growth.

The LAUNCH program covers the cost of one certificate program for full-time UCSD students who want to ensure their first step into the workplace puts them on the right path to career success.

Library services
As a UC San Diego Extension student, you are eligible to purchase a UC San Diego Library borrowing card at the Geisel Library’s circulation desk. You must have a student ID card and be registered for the current quarter to be eligible.

UC San Diego Extension—like all other UC San Diego schools, colleges and departments—is accredited by WASC through the University.
