History

Nestled in one of the most beautiful, vibrant regions in Southern California, the University of California, Irvine is ranked the 9th best public university and best university under 50 years old in the United States. Since its founding in 1965, the university has continued to gain prestige for its superior academic programs and contributions to cutting-edge research.

Education

Through our fully accredited English Language programs, students can drastically improve their English skills, focus on learning to apply effective communication techniques in business situations, or advance their English conversation skills and knowledge of American culture. In our Accelerated Certificate Programs, post-graduate professionals can broaden their knowledge and expertise in their field by taking these 3-month courses taught by instructors who are practicing professionals in their industry. Our International Undergraduate Preparation Program (IUPP) and International Graduate Studies Preparation Program (IGSPP) equip students with the skills to be admitted to and succeed in their degree programs.

Career

UCI offers the chance for professional and career development. Our Accelerated Certificate Programs include career development. Internships are supervised professional positions which give you the opportunity to work in a real-world setting, take on workplace projects, earn academic credits, learn new skills and concepts, and make professional contacts. They are unpaid and mostly in mid-sized firms in the high-tech environment of Orange County, as well as the greater Los Angeles area.Optional Practical Training (OPT) is an opportunity for F-1 student visa holders to gain up to 12 months of paid practical work experience off campus, while expanding and enhancing their business experience anywhere in the U.S.

Student services

All students enrolled in any of our programs benefit from the individual attention of our supportive team. As a part of our student body, you will receive guidance and support from our attentive staff to help you both with any immigration advising to maintain your documents, as well as adjust to learning and living in Irvine. Joining us means that you will take part in small groups of students to ensure individual attention from instructors.

Housing services

UC Irvine offers housing for international students such as apartments and homestay. Also, UC Irvine provides a variety of facilities accommodating students’ needs including the Anteater Recreational Center, Student Center, Student Health Center, libraries, study centers, and computer labs.

Library services

Langson Library is equipped with study rooms, computer labs, and wireless internet options. It include workshops, classes, and personal tutorials on various subject matters. The Science Library, which is one of the largest science, technology, and medicine libraries in the nation offers a wide range of traditional print and electronic information resources.

ICT services

Computer labs located on campus are equipped with free internet access for students. Wireless internet access is also provided at almost all locations on campus.

Medical services

Students are required to purchase health insurance from UCI, which would assist students in medical emergencies. The fees for the health insurance vary by length of stay.

Campus life

The layout of the core UCI campus resembles a rough circle with its center being Aldrich Park, lined by the Ring Mall, and buildings surrounding the road. Aldrich Park is planted with over 11,120 trees.

Ring Mall is the main pedestrian road used by students and faculty to travel around the core campus, whether walking, skateboarding or biking. The road measures up to a perfect mile and completely encircles Aldrich Park. Other areas of the university outside of the core campus, such as the School of Arts, are connected by four pedestrian bridges. Beyond the core campus and the bridges, the layout of the campus is more suburban.

Sports facilities

The Anteater Recreation Center (the ARC) is an 8,300 m2 indoor gym facility that is part of campus recreation. The facilities include, but are not limited to, a main gym featuring 3 basketball or volleyball courts, a fitness lab with state-of-the-art cardiovascular machines, weight machines, and free weights in a room with 8 flat screen TVs, an indoor jogging track, a rock wall for beginner and advanced climbers, three glass-enclosed racquetball courts, activity rooms, a backcourt gym, a Wellness Lab, an aquatics plaza, a 100,000 m2 outdoor complex, for softball, soccer, football, rugby, lacrosse, basketball, roller hockey, and tennis, massage therapy rooms and a smoothies and snacks bar.

Student clubs

Here at UC Irvine, students can readily find friends who share their same interest! With over 650 student clubs, students have a variety activities, organizations, community service, and sports to take part in. There is a place for everyone here at UC Irvine, whether your interests are academic, multicultural, political, religious, service, social, or athletic. Campus activities throughout the year include cultural nights, arts performances, and live music at Anteater Plaza—special events such as Summerlands, Wayzgoose, Shocktoberfest, and Earth Day are held yearly.

UC Irvine is fully accredited by the Senior Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WSCUC), California's regional accrediting agency.
